522928660.jpg &&& THE REV. John P. O'Connor, who served numerous area churches in 60 years as a Roman Catholic priest, died Sunday. He was 90 and was living in St. Francis Country House, Darby. He was born in Mahanoy City, son of George J. O'Connor and Anna C. Doyle. He attended St. Canicus Parochial School in Mahanoy City and Mahanoy City High School before entering St. Charles Borromeo Seminary. He was ordained on Feb. 24, 1945, by the Most Rev. Hugh L. Lamb at the Cathedral Basilica of Ss. Peter and Paul. He served as parochial vicar at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Bridgeport; at St. Bernadette Parish, Drexel Hill; at St. Timothy, St. John the Baptist, St. Benedict, Stella Maris and St. Katherine of Siena, all in Philadelphia; and at St. Isaac Jogues Parish, Wayne. O'Connor served as pastor of St. Benedict Parish and St. Francis Xavier Parish in Philadelphia. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Elizabeth O'Connor, and nieces and nephews. Services: Funeral Mass 1:30 p.m. today celebrated by Cardinal Justin Rigali at Our Lady of Peace Church, Milmont Park. The service of Transfer of the Body will be held at the church at noon today, followed by a viewing. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon.
